Former OPERS Executive Director Rex Privett passed away on December 5, 2013, at the age of 89. Mr. Privett had a long and illustrious career in public service, including his tenure as the Executive Director of OPERS from 1982 until his retirement in 1995.
“Rex Privett was an outstanding public servant,” said current OPERS Executive Director Tom Spencer. “As the former House Speaker, he was a master of the legislative process. I am proud to be the director of the agency he successfully led during a time of enormous change and reform of Oklahoma pensions.”
Prior to his tenure at OPERS, Privett served in the Oklahoma House of Representatives from 1956 to 1972. During his 16-year legislative career, he served four years as Speaker Pro Tempore and six years as Speaker of the House. Privett was elected to the Oklahoma Corporation Commission and served for the next six years including as its Chairman in 1975.
The OPERS Board and staff wish to extend their sympathies to the family of the Honorable Rex Privett – particularly to his beloved wife of 66 years, Patricia, and their three children, Debi, Nick and Trish.
