The Oklahoma Public Employees Retirement System is one of the nation’s top earning public pension funds, according to data from international newspaper Pensions & Investments (subscription required).

The site tracked 61 public pension plans across the United States, reporting a median return of 10.7% for the fiscal year ended June 30. According to preliminary data from September 23, OPERS led the pack with a 12.5% gross return at the end of fiscal year 2025.

“Producing the outstanding results we’ve experienced over the past several years requires the unwavering application of our investment philosophy over many years,” said OPERS Executive Director Joe Fox. “The OPERS Board of Trustees deserves much credit, not only for this short-term success, but also in maintaining steadfast discipline with respect to our overall investment philosophy over the long term.”

OPERS produced significant returns with a diversified portfolio featuring international equities (18.4% return), domestic equities (18.1% return), and domestic fixed income (5.9% return). OPERS consistently ranks among the top performers in the nation, with annualized gross returns of 12.1%, 9%, and 7.7% for the last three, five, and 10 years, respectively.
